THE BRAND
ÄRNI BLUM is a tactile knitwear brand rooted in texture, form and feeling.
We create expressive pieces for women who dress with intention — soft against the skin, yet strong in presence.
Each garment is crafted in our studio in Saaremaa using carefully sourced natural yarns. Many pieces are made to order, allowing us to create with focus and avoid excess.
Our work explores the balance between softness and structure, ease and expression.
Silhouettes are sculptural, textures expressive — designed to be felt, worn and seen.
Knitwear, for us, is a form of self-expression.
Personal. Instinctive. Present.

THE NAME
Ärni Blum was the birth name of the founder and designer Johanna’s grandfather. A man with quiet elegance — always in a tailored suit, a hat, and a subtle sense of charm. He had a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, detail and beauty. Values that continue to live on in every ÄRNI piece.
The name stayed with Johanna from an early age — first as a childhood pseudonym, later as something more personal. Today, it carries a sense of continuity. A quiet connection between past and present.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe in dressing for how you want to feel.
Some days call for softness and ease.
Others for presence, colour, expression.
There is no single way to be — only the freedom to move between them.
This is how our knitwear is designed.
From understated to expressive, from quiet to visible —
depending on how you choose to wear it.
Styling becomes part of the piece.
Nothing is fixed. Everything shifts with you.

THE DESIGNER
Founder and Creative Director, Johanna Paiste
Born in Saaremaa, Johanna began knitting at a young age, inspired by her mother — a practice that grew into a way of thinking and creating.
Drawn to beauty, texture and form from early on, she developed a strong visual and tactile sensitivity that continues to shape her work.
What started as a personal craft evolved into ÄRNI BLUM — a knitwear brand rooted in texture, form and feeling.
Her work reflects a balance between sensitivity and strength, intuition and structure.
Johanna Paiste has been nominated for the Estonian fashion award Hõbenõel.
THE MAKERS
Each piece is brought to life by experienced knitters, whose knowledge is built over decades.
From the first stitch to the final finishing, every garment is shaped, assembled and refined by hand.
Working closely within a small studio setting, the process remains personal —
guided by precision, patience and care.

THE CRAFT
Our knitwear is shaped through a zero-waste approach — knitted to form, not cut from it.
Each piece is created either by hand or with small-scale knitting machines, then assembled and finished by hand. From yarn selection to final finishing, every step follows a considered process — precise, intentional, never rushed.
Craft, for us, is not decoration.
It is the foundation of how each piece comes to life.
MATERIALS
We work with natural, certified fibres, chosen for their feel, quality and longevity.
Our yarns are sourced from trusted mills in Italy, Japan and Peru, each yarn is selected for its quality, character and longevity.
Materials are not just seen.
They are experienced.

STUDIO
ÄRNI BLUM operates between two studios in Estonia.
In Kuressaare, our knitwear is created — where making, assembling and finishing take place.
In Tallinn, our Telliskivi studio is a space for meeting, experiencing and connecting with the brand.
RESPONSIBILITY
We create with intention — producing only what is needed, when it is needed.
Many of our pieces are made to order, helping us avoid overproduction and reduce waste.
We work with natural, certified materials and keep our process close, small and considered.
Responsibility, for us, is not a statement.
It is part of how we work.
