YARNS

Ärni Blum’s yarn world is colorful!
We don’t base our knitwear on yarn, but rather look for the right yarn for our new idea.
We often combine different yarns together, which can make the material content of our products especially exciting.
The most favorite combination is 100% extrafine merino wool and silk mohair. For example, our customers’ favorites, the LU cardigan and the Jasmin sweater, are knitted from this combination.
All of our yarns are selected with care and love, and they mainly come to us from Italy and Japan.

Merino wool

100% extra fine merino wool
Country of origin: Italy

Fine and soft merino wool is obtained from the undercoat of merino sheep. Merino wool regulates body temperature, meaning it keeps you pleasantly warm in cold weather and cools you down in warm weather and allows your body to breathe. Merino wool is soft on the skin and does not sting. Merino wool wicks moisture away from the skin, meaning you will not get cold when you sweat, and merino wool products will not smell even after wearing them for several days. Merino knitwear is springy and does not wrinkle easily. Merino wool products are easy to care for because they withstand the wool wash program of a machine.

CASHMERE YARN

70% superfine merino, 30% ultrafine cashmere
Country of origin: Italy

Cashmere wool is obtained from cashmere goats, which originate from the slopes of the Himalayas in Tibet. Did you know that a sheep can produce up to 6 kg of wool with a single shearing, but a cashmere goat only produces 300-500 g of fiber per year? Since cashmere fibers are extremely expensive in their pure form, they are often blended with other fibers.
The cashmere yarn used in Ärni Blum is also blended with “extrafine” merino wool, which makes this yarn particularly versatile. Cashmere wool is considered the most luxurious and expensive natural textile due to its exceptional softness and warmth. At the same time, merino wool regulates body temperature and is easy to care for. Therefore, products knitted from yarn with such a great combination are ideal for year-round use.

Alpaca wool

100% alpaca wool
Country of origin: Italy

Certificates: FSC certification, chemical management 4sustainability, RCS certification

Alpaca wool comes from alpacas, a member of the camelid family, which are native to South America. Alpaca wool is a soft, very warm and valuable fiber. The wool is exceptionally strong and durable, does not wrinkle easily or become lumpy. The yarn is highly breathable, light and has a beautiful natural shine. Although alpaca wool is not as strong as sheep’s wool, it is 7 times warmer. Alpaca wool is recommended for allergy sufferers because it is softer than sheep’s wool and does not sting. The wool is water and dirt repellent and easy to care for.

Silk mohair

mohair 60%, silk 40%
Country of origin: Japan

Mohair – Mohair wool is obtained from the Angora goat, which originally comes from the slopes of the Himalayas in Tibet. Mohair fiber is warm, light and durable and does not age easily. Mohair has a special sheen that arises from the reflection of light. Mohair products are well suited for allergy sufferers because they are softer than sheep’s wool. Mohair gives knitwear an extraordinary fluffiness and airiness. Mohair is considered a luxurious fiber, it is difficult to obtain and expensive, so mohair is often mixed with other fibers. The mohair used in Ärni Blum’s knitwear is also mixed with silk.
Silk – Silk fiber is obtained from the cocoons of the silkworm caterpillar. Its production is known to have begun 4,500 years ago in China. Silk is light, smooth, slippery and has a characteristic light sheen. Silk allows the body to breathe, absorbs moisture well and also keeps you warm. Silk is elastic and does not wrinkle easily. Silk can only withstand gentle washing with lukewarm water and cannot withstand high ironing temperatures.

Cotton

100% Cotton
Country of origin: Italy
Certificates:
oeko-tex certification, GOTs certification, fsc certification,
chemical management 4sustainability, RCS certification.

Cotton is obtained from the cotton plant, whose history dates back 7,000 years to India and Mexico. Cotton is strong and resists abrasion well, meaning it does not become stuffy or electric. Cotton allows air to pass through, which is why knitwear made from it is ideal for summer wear. Cotton absorbs moisture well, but it takes a long time to dry. Cotton knitwear is easy to maintain and wash.

Yarn with cotton and polyamide content

70% cotton and 30% polyamide
Country of origin: Italy
Certificates: gots certificate

Polyamide is a chemical fiber made from petroleum. The polyamide content in wool helps knitwear to last longer, the products are stronger, hold their shape well and drape well. Polyamide does not tolerate high temperatures when washed.

A yarn with this combination of cotton and polyamide is ideal for summer wear, while cotton alone tends to stretch more easily, the polyamide content helps
the knitwear to last better.

Sheep wool

100% Sheep Wool
Country of Origin: Italy

Wool is the fiber mass obtained by shearing or combing animals. The most common wool fiber is sheep’s wool. Wool fiber has a long history – it is the oldest known animal textile fiber. Wool knitwear is warm, breathable, wrinkle-resistant, and gets wet slowly. Sheep’s wool knitwear ages more easily and can be rougher than other yarns we use.

Yarn with alpaca and polyamide content

75% Alpaca wool and 25% polyamide
Country of origin: Italy
Certificates: got’s, fsc certification, chemical management 4sustainability, RCS certification

All the good properties of alpaca wool are added a bit of durability with the help of polyamide.
Polyamide is a chemical fiber made from petroleum.
The polyamide content in wool makes the products stronger, helps them keep their shape, and thanks to it, the knitwear drapes well. Polyamide does not tolerate high temperatures when washed.
